A Bit of History
The whole business has been developed around the working career of Tony Wilkinson
For his whole working career he has never ceased researching and learning new disciplines and inventing or reinventing products so the business has been growing along with his work all the time.
The chain of events according to Tony Wilkinson:-
“I had the vision in the middle of the night and woke my wife up and sat her down at our bar took out a pen and paper and began to write down the outline of a complete green product based business with the aim of starting with a single product business and develop it fully into profit and then begin with another product and bring that into profit and once this had been achieved on a few products begin strategizing on growing the company into a force to be reckoned with on the world stage.
After a lot of thought, documentary preparation and research I proceeded to name the company Blue Planet Green and even visualised the organigram of the complete company with me being employed in technical department on a consultancy basis with other directors earning their status as we went along.
The actual company journey was started in 2004 with his best friend Erich Liegh who really bought into these concepts and we decided to form a partnership while I was still working at Seimag Blanes and he would do Business at times when I was otherwise occupied working. I did have some working capital as I took a second bond on our house.
We decided to start off with the new design of some waiter lamps with a confirmed order for 30 of these lamps if our prototype was a success, 30 washing lines and 5 biltong cutters which I was already in progress building before the business started.
The partnership lasted for 3 years until 2007 as Erich had contracted cancer of the skin during this period and after having a serious battle with this horrible condition he very sadly passed on. Erich had continued working alongside me on whatever we had going right up until he informed me that he would not be able to continue any more as he was in too much pain.
About two weeks after this a very brave man and great friend succumbed to cancer and I remain ever thankful to you my friend.
At this point the wind was completely blown out of the sails and I decided to just knuckle down and continue with my day job to contribute to keeping the family fed and the kids in school and I partially shelved the very empty Blue Planet Green.
I eventually left Seimag Blanes which had become Seimag Techberg and joined Shaft Sinkers in 2005
I worked at the company quite normally until early 2010 until the last few months of 2013 when I suffered a complete nervous collapse so these years were completely written off.
Having recovered fully I continued at Rand Yard and worked there until Shaft Sinkers basically disintegrated and enforced retirement was thrust upon me very unexpectedly at the end of December 2014
After sending my CV out to very many institutions without success and also quoting on many engineering jobs on promise and on a risk basis having not produced any positive outcome and so far very little income has come from this endeavour and after more than two years have passed, not much income to speak of.
With our finances becoming an ever increasing problem in October last year I decide to do something positive about the ever growing Blue Planet Green concept in my cranium and all of its products I have developed a lot of the products to point where they can be prototyped or just produced for production.
One of these products is a very innovative recycling system called Smart Bins that I have been researching growing in my cranium for the last 15 years and I brought this to life along with a few of the other products in a couple of months of hard work and am now ready to share all of these products and concepts with anyone who wishes to become involved to whatever extent they wish to contribute to the realisation of these products.
To facilitate the beginning of this I have also acquired my second hand dealers license and my recycling license and I have actually started developing my own ewaste pilot workshop in our garage.in an effort to kick start my abilities being put to the test in this arena of operation.
With this in mind I am in the process of resurrecting the old business under the guise of “d-zine hub ECO” including the website, as I can now devote his full time and effort thereto and also handle any engineering jobs alongside this if anything in this line presents itself.”
